If you’re looking for a destination in Alentejo that will captivate the entire family, Estremoz is the perfect choice! Known as the “White City” due to its renowned marble, this gem in the Alentejo marble region offers history, heritage, and breathtaking landscapes — the ideal setting for a walking tour.
Let´s have a walk with one of the groups that we received. With charming streets, impressive monuments, and stories that bring Estremoz marble to life, every moment was a discovery for all ages.
Our starting point was Rossio Square, a spacious and vibrant area. Here, our guide João shared the fascinating history of the Estremoz Town Hall building, where we had the chance to visit the interior. The courtyard adorned with marble sculptures and the stunning staircase decorated with tiles captured everyone’s attention — and, of course, we took a group photo!

If you visit on a Saturday, you’ll also have the chance to explore the famous traditional market held in the same square. It’s impossible not to fall in love with the fresh Alentejo products and the vibrant atmosphere. But this market deserves a post of its own!
As we wandered through the city center, we were lucky enough to find the Santo Cristo Chapel open — a rare treat! It was a brief stop, but it left us amazed.

Next, we headed to the former Convent of Maltesas, now the Estremoz Live Science Center, where we visited the cloisters and uncovered historical details, such as the old pharmacy.

Oh, and we also met a friendly pair of peacocks!

We then arrived at the famous Gadanha Lake, one of the most photographed spots in Estremoz, with its serene beauty.

To wrap up our tour, we climbed up to the Estremoz Castle.

The view from the Tower of Homage, made of local marble, is breathtaking. It’s incredible to think that marble from here has traveled to so many countries and is part of historic monuments worldwide!

Throughout the tour, we discovered how marble is deeply intertwined with Estremoz’s identity. From fountains to churches, every detail tells a story about this unique city in the Alentejo marble region.

If you’re looking for an authentic and relaxed experience, our guided tours are perfect for families. We’re sure even the little ones will leave talking about marble and Alentejo heritage.
And don’t worry about the photos: in Estremoz, every click turns into a perfect postcard!

How about starting to plan your visit? We’re ready to welcome you and show you the best of the “White City”!
